Well done to all of the club members who raced, marshalled and supported the extremely well attended Ulverston Triathlon. Over 250 people toed the line, which included kids, solo racers and teams alike. Great to see a large number of club members sporting club colours – and I’m told the UTC trisuits got plenty of positive comments (suits you sir!)
First club member home was Chris Joyce in an excellent 3rd place in 1:14:26, with Kie Jackson next home in 5th place with 1:16:06 and Peter Denness rounding out the UTC podium in 9th place with 1:17:30.
On the girls side of things Lucy Jones raced superbly to come home second lady in an impressive time of 1:30:07. Next home was Alex Fairer in 12th place in a time of 1:41:08, and Carlie Thompson coming in a very respectable 32nd with a sub 2hr 1:59:25.
Iain Ward Smith put in great performance being the first UTCer home in the Vet40 category, coming home in a 1:27:08 for an impressive 11th place in his age group. Paul ‘Macca’ McKenny raced hard for an equally impressive finish in the Vet50 category, with a fantastic 1:31:46 to bring him home in 8th place in his age group. John Barstow rounds out our UTC age group winners finishing in a lightning fast 1:59:47, gaining John a superb 3rd place finish in the Vet60 category – Fantastic effort John!
The final acclaim must however go to Oliver Forlizzi, who was the only club member to win his age group!!! Oliver was the 1st Male Junior home – Great work Oliver!!!
Honourable mentions must go to club chairman Wayne Singleton for ‘manning up’ and racing on less than ideal training and race preparation, and Janet McKenny and Kalyani Nutt for bringing it home in fine style for the girls – great effort ladies!
A massive well done to everyone who raced no matter how long it took or what position you came. It’s all about having a go and having fun, and Triathlon can’t be beat if you want to lead a healthy and active lifestyle.
Full club results can be seen below, and if I have missed anyone let me know via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or via the club facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/UlverstonTriClub/)

A quick mention also to Paul Dewar who ran the Bletchly Enigma Marathon Event on Good Friday, which saw him post a fantastic 3:42:42 and a top 10 placing. Paul will also be heading to the Huddersfield Marathon this weekend, and K2B the week after for more long distance running fun!
Plenty of club members will be racing over the next couple of weeks, with the next big club outing the Coniston Triathlon weekend on 31st May / 1st June. Get out there and enjoy your training and racing guys and gals!
